Radford R400 - Turn-key cruising yacht with an extensive inventory

From the drawing board of world-renowned naval architect Graham Radford, the Radford R400 is a world class blue water cruising yacht.

‘Capers’ was professionally built to an exceptionally high standard by Jack Hofland. At a glance, you would be forgiven for thinking that the round bilge steel hull was fibreglass. Look closer and you will notice that every join and corner on deck has been painstakingly rounded over. There is a complete absence of the harsh square edges that you typically find on the majority of steel boats. Structurally the R400 was designed and built to meet the ABS guide for offshore racing yachts and has ABS plan approval. It is very rare to find a steel yacht constructed to such exacting standards.

The R400 has a centre cockpit that is well protected from the elements and perfectly sized for offshore passage making. The primary winches and mainsheet are within easy reach of the helm making her easy to handle shorthanded. The side decks are spacious and easy to move around. The deep bulwarks add a touch of class and an additional degree of safety.

The interior has been fitted out with stunning West Australia Jarrah. The craftsmanship and joinery are first class. Storage is very well catered for with an abundance of cupboards and drawers everywhere you look. The saloon has full length settees on either side that double as great sea berths while underway. The centre piece of the saloon is the solid Jarrah dining table. Its large enough to accommodate half a dozen hungry sailors for dinner, and folds down on both sides to facilitate easy passage when not in use.

The galley features two large stainless sinks, under bench refrigeration and a top-quality Tudor gas stove with oven and grill. There is gas detector, and the installation is certified. Storage in and around the galley has been taken to the next level. The passageway leading aft from the galley is lined on both sides with a multitude of cupboards and working bench space.

Accommodation is very well catered for with two double cabins. The master cabin aft is luxuriously spacious and features a huge double bed. Full size drawers and numerous cupboards provide ample storage for a couple. The forward guests cabin also features a generous sized double bed, great storage options and some stunning Jarrah work.

The interior layout has been very thoughtfully designed and there is easy access to maintain the critical systems onboard. A good example of this is the inclusion of a small systems room just aft of the bathroom on the starboard side. This houses a number of electronic components including the water maker, and gives excellent side access to the engine to facilitate easy servicing.

Capers is on the Australian Ship Registry and the current owners has cruised extensively in Indonesia and Western Australia. The previous and first owners, sailed Capers around the world and wrote a book about their adventures titled ‘Are we having fun yet’.

Capers has been extremely well setup as a long range, live aboard, cruising yacht. The current owner has had her for 14 years, and over that period has maintained her to a very high standard. The inventory has been constantly updated. Capers is presented to the market as a turn-key cruising yacht and is ready to provision and sail off into the sunset tomorrow.
