Sparkman & Stephens 34 ~ Professional Interior Fitout ~ PEN available
The S&S 34 is a widely respected 34-foot offshore cruising and racing yacht designed by Olin Stephens of Sparkman & Stephens in 1968. It later became one of the most renowned production bluewater sailboats ever built.
The S&S 34 is a legendary design that needs little introduction. It has long been a trusted choice among renowned solo, non-stop, around-the-world circumnavigators, including Jon Sanders, Jessica Watson, David Dicks, and Jesse Martin, among others.
The design boasts exceptional offshore pedigree and a reputation for strength, speed, and seaworthiness.
The S&S 34 has an exceptionally loyal following, with extensive support, history, and documentation available through the S&S 34 Association. Https://ss34. Org/
A beautifully presented example of the legendary Sparkman & Stephens 34, Sunset On Fire stands apart from many S&S34’s with a professionally built interior fitout — offering a level of finish, comfort, and craftsmanship rarely found in the majority of owner-finished boats.
Below deck, the interior is finished in light timber tones that contrast beautifully with the deep blue upholstery. The saloon offers generous seating around a well-sized dining table. The table lowers to create an additional berth or daybed with the addition of an infill cushion, a thoughtful design feature and a practical solution for accommodating extra guests.
The master accommodation is located forward in a comfortable double V-berth. Additional sleeping arrangements include a single quarter berth to port, along with single sea berths in the saloon.
The generously sized U-shaped galley is well equipped with everything needed to prepare a proper meal at sea. The classic Maxie two-burner kerosene stove also features a grill/toaster, while avoiding the certification costs and safety concerns often associated with carrying LPG gas onboard. A large top-loading icebox keeps food and drinks chilled, complemented by ample storage throughout the galley.
The cockpit is very well appointed, featuring four premium-quality Anderson self-tailing winches. Combined with two additional Barlow winches positioned beside the helm, the entire sail plan is easily managed. The mainsheet is also within comfortable reach of the helm, making the boat particularly well suited to short-handed or solo sailing.
A new Raymarine wheel pilot was fitted last year, with the controller conveniently mounted right beside the helm for easy access underway.
Sunset on Fire also boasts an extensive sail wardrobe, with the sails presented in good condition. Included are a fully battened mainsail, No. 1 and No. 2 genoas, a storm jib and trysail, along with two spinnakers.
The mast has a tabernacle and dual spinnaker poles are included as part of the mast-lowering setup.
Sunset on Fire is powered by a relatively new 20hp Yanmar engine with only 180 hours of use. Propulsion is delivered via a Yanmar saildrive, paired with a two-blade folding propeller that helps minimise drag and enhance sailing performance.
The Pen is available for a member at Fremantle Sailing Club, or for a buyer wishing to join FSC.
