Great all-round racer/cruiser
The Prestige 34 was designed by the legendary design team of Sparkman and Stephens. The design incorporates the great sea keeping abilities that S&S designs are renowned for, with a good turn of speed. The Prestige 34’s were solidly built by Yachtspeed in Perth and incorporate the same hull form as the S&S 36.
With a tall and powerful rig, ‘ Yamu’ is a very competitive club racer. And with a well-appointed interior and accommodation for seven, she is a comfortable and capable cruising yacht.
The well-designed cockpit will appeal to both cruising and racing sailors. For the racing sailors that like to trim until their hearts content, there are eight winches surrounding the cockpit, an adjustable backstay, and no shortage of running rigging lead aft to the cockpit. For the cruising sailor, there are two self-tailing sheet winches within easy reach of the helm, and with the mainsheet just forward of those, this is a very easy design to sail shorthanded or solo. A foldout cockpit table and a built-in transom step with a swim ladder are nice touches that feature on every cruisers wish list.
The interior is spacious for a design of this era. The large saloon windows provide loads of natural lighting, and combined with an abundance of rich warm timber, the interior has a homely inviting appeal. There is a generous amount of seating around the saloon table, and it folds down to create a day bed for lounging around, or a double berth for additional guests.
The L-shaped galley is simple and practical. The sink has been positioned amidships so it drains well on either tack, and with a metho stove you won’t have to worry about the safety aspect of having gas onboard. There is top loading 12v fridge and an icebox, and an additional 40lt Engel fridge just aft of the bulkhead.
Accommodation is well catered for with a total of seven berths. There is a double V-berth forward, large single on the starboard side of the saloon, double on the port side of the saloon, and two single berths in the aft cabin.
Yamu has been consistently upgraded and a considerable amount of money has been spent on her over the past ten years.
***There is some additional equipment in storage that has been removed from the boat. This includes a Fleeming wind vane and an AirX wind generator. The inclusion of these two items is negotiable.
