‘Tantara’ underwent a considerable refit in 2022. She is currently on a fortnightly maintenance plan and presents in excellent condition.

The Irwin 52 is an extremely comfortable and spacious liveaboard cruising yacht. The design has considerable internal volume that delivers spacious living areas and generous accommodation.

The main saloon would have to be one of the most spacious living areas to be found on a 52 foot design. The raised deck saloon adds considerably to the volume of the saloon and the surrounding windows and opening hatches flood the living area with natural light.

Accommodation is very well catered for with a total of eight berths. The private master aft cabin, features a large double bed, loads of storage, and an en-suite. There are a couple of great sea berth positioned amidships in the place of least motion.

The galley is on the starboard side of the saloon and incorporates a breakfast bar with a couple of bar stools. Standard inclusions are a gas stove/oven, fridge and freezer. Luxurios extras include an ice maker and washing machine.

As you would expect of a yacht of this calibre, there is plenty of storage both below and on deck. A large lazarette at the transom provides the perfect solution for storing sails, tender, bicycles and everything in-between.

Tantara has a very versatile staysail ketch rig. This provides a multitude of varying sail combinations all broken down into smaller easier to handle sails. With a self-tacking staysail, the only sail that needs to be attended to while tacking, is the headsail. All of the sails were removed, serviced and cleaned and reinstalled with new sail covers in 2022.

The Perkins 135hp pushes Tantara along at a respectable 8kn under power. The engine, gearbox and generator were all removed, fully serviced and reinstalled during the 2022 refit.

One of the standout cruising features of the Erwin 52 is the shoal draft keel that draws only 1.6m. The keel incorporates a centreboard that extends the draft to 3.05m and greatly improves upwind performance. Theis design really does offer the cruising sailor the best of both worlds.

Tantara’s current owners bought her in back in1996. After a considerable refit they completed a circumnavigation and eventually ended up in Malaysia. In 2022 Tantara underwent another substantial refit with most work taking place in a hangar in Boustead Langkawi Shipyard (see pictures). She is now offered for sale at Royal Langkawi Yacht Club, Malaysia.

o All 3 booms repainted (2022)
o Interior woodwork and cabin sole re-varnished (2022)
o Engine & gearbox removed, fully serviced and repainted (2022)
o Generator serviced (2022)
o All new engine, house and generator batteries (2022)
o All refrigeration serviced (2022)
o Hot water tank removed, plumbing and wiring loom remains (2022)
o All 4 sails removed, serviced, cleaned and new sail covers installed (2022)
o New bimini and dodger installed (2022)
o New LED lights installed (2022)
o Running rigging – many new halyards and sheets (2022)
o Standing rigging – surveyed (2022)
o Tender and Yamaha OBM serviced (2022)
o Both spare anchors re-galvanised (2022)
