C&C 34

Please note – this yacht is at Port Geographe Marina, Busselton and comes with a Pen (free holiday home down the SW) that has been prepaid up until August.

The C&C 34 was designed as a performance racing yacht with a strong emphasis on incorporating all of the desirable features of a comfortable cruising yacht. The design has also proven itself as a capable blue water cruiser and Aquila IV was sailed to Australia from Canada by her original owner.

There is no doubt that the C&C 34 was designed well ahead of its time. Yachts of this era typically had very low freeboard, cramped interiors, narrow transoms and small cockpits. Contrary to the design trends of the time, the C&C 34 was designed with a voluminous hull that provides generous amounts of interior space and a large cockpit.

The C&C 34 is true sailors’ boat in every respect. And with a light and nicely balanced helm, is a lot of fun to sail. The design sails very high to windward and has a good turn of speed on all points of sail. The cockpit has been very thoughtfully designed, and with the aft winches in easy reach of the helm, is easily sailed by a couple or singlehanded. And for those of you that take their racing a bit more seriously, there is no shortage of adjustments to be made, spinnakers to fly, and strings to pull until your hearts content.

Step down below and the interior is oozing with character. An abundance of rich warm timber gives the interior a homely and inviting feel. The saloon is spacious with no shortage of seating on the port and starboard settees. The settees also double as great sea berths and the one on the starboard side can be converted to a double berth. The centre piece of the saloon is a large and very cleverly designed dining table. It has two folding leaves. The starboard one can be quickly detached and mounted above the settee to provide additional bench space for preparing meals.

The L-shaped galley is compact and functional. There is a superb Smev 3 burner stove with oven and grill, and even includes a rotisserie. The gas installation is certified and there is a gas detector to ensure safe operation. The top loading fridge is kept ice cold with an excellent, and very power efficient, Ozefridge eutectic refrigeration unit. She has been setup to be very frugal on water usage, with a salt water hand pump for rinsing dishes and freshwater delivered via a foot pump.

On the port side is a full size nav table with a tidy setup of well-marked circuit breakers. Aft of the nav table is a double bunk (king size single). A custom made chart storage rack provides a nice addition to the original design.

The master cabin is forward and features a comfortable double bed. A large opening hatch provides loads of natural light and great ventilation. There is a cabin door for privacy, and just aft, a very large storage cupboard with slide out baskets. The bathroom is just aft of the master cabin on the starboard side and features an electric head and a very nice vanity unit with plenty of storage.

With LED interior lighting and eutectic refrigeration, Aquila had been setup to be very energy efficient while living onboard. Power consumption has been kept to a minimum and the two flexible solar panels on top of the bimini are more than adequate to maintain the house bank without the need to run the engine.

Aquila has been upgraded and repowered with a quality Volvo MD2030 diesel engine and gearbox. The 30hp provides more than adequate power for a yacht of this displacement. The Autostream two blade feathering prop delivers excellent thrust in reverse and minimal drag while sailing.

Also included is an inflatable dinghy with oars and transom wheels, and a top quality 2.3hp Honda 4 stroke air cooled (no flushing required) outboard.

Good quality production boats of this size are extremely hard to find in the current market. Aquila IV represents very good value for money, and at this price will not be on the market long. So don’t delay, pick up the phone now and book an inspection before she is gone.
