RUNNALLS 31 ~ VERSATILE RACER/CRUISER
RUNNALLS 31 ~ VERSATILE RACER/CRUISER
From the drawing board of Malcolm Runnals, the Runnals 31 was designed to be a highly competitive racer/cruiser.
The Runnals 31 is fast and nimble around the cans and yet boasts all of the necessary comforts for weekends away at Rottnest and beyond.
The build quality of this yacht, both inside and out, are of a very high standard. By utilizing high-tech construction methods, foam sandwich hull and balsa cored deck, the displacement has been kept down to a very respectable 3500kg. Needless to say, this translates into impressive sailing performance out on the water.
The original owner that commissioned ‘Shae’ was a stainless steel worker and subsequently there is a plethora of custom-made stainless steel hardware that was incorporated into the build. The quality and design of these one-off custom pieces is impressive to say the least. One example is the freshwater spout for the galley sink, that has a very sleek design that protrudes from the vertical grab rail. Another nice touch is how the mounting bolts for the deck hardware have been terminated on the headlining with flush stainless backing plates without a nut in sight.
The cockpit is very large for yacht of the size and is a great asset while racing or relaxing in your favourite anchorage. The cockpit design is clean and uncluttered, and with the mainsheet traveller positioned well aft, there is plenty of unobstructed room for your crew to operate. The open transom and boarding ladder provide easy access after a refreshing swim. A generous sized lazarette on the starboard side provides tons of storage for all of the necessary bits and pieces.
Steeping down below, the saloon has a nice clean and functional layout with plenty of natural light. The timber trim is of a high quality and there is just enough to add some genuine warmth to the interior.
The galley features a full size 4 burner gas stove a with grill. The 12v top loading fridge has built in shelving for easy stowage.
The master berth is aft and features a comfortable double bed. There are two additional sea berth on either side of the saloon.
‘Shae’ is powered with a 20hp Yanmar with only 240 hours on the clock. Engine access is excellent with the companionway stairs and side panel removed.
Shae has been very well maintained by her current owner. The antifoul was last done in October 2023 and the engine was last serviced August 2023. When you take into account the fact that all of the large expensive ticket items (engine, sails, standing rigging) are all relatively new and in very good condition, Shae represent excellent buying at the current asking price.
