Roberts Mauritius 43 ~ loaded to the gunnels with quality cruising gear
Roberts Mauritius 43 staysail ketch, loaded to the gunnels with top quality cruising gear.
Comprehensive cruising inventory o Robust steel construction o Exceptional value under $100K
Looking for a serious offshore yacht without the million-dollar price tag? This Roberts Mauritius steel ketch delivers everything experienced cruisers value most: strength, comfort, capability, and practicality — all at an outstanding price point.
Bruce Roberts designs need no introduction to cruising sailors and the Mauritius is one of his most popular with over 2000 reportedly built to date. Great sailing characteristics and seaworthiness have made the Mauritius the design of choice for many globe trotting cruising sailors. The full length keel delivers exceptional directional stability and makes the boat track beautifully on long offshore passages.
‘Crackers’ is a fine example of the Roberts Mauritius design with a few highly desirable modifications and additions.
+ A stainless-steel bowsprit has been added to enhance the anchoring setup and tweak the performance by moving the genoa forward.
+ The addition of a bow thruster has made Crackers extremely easy to handle shorthanded and has significantly improved the manoeuvrability in close quarters.
+ The upgraded 100HP Volvo Penta engine provides excellent performance underway
+ The rudder is the upgraded design and has been balanced 20% forward of the shaft to lighten the helm and improve the overall performance.
+ The aluminium davits have been heavily engineered to handle a load of up to 300kg and incorporate and very useful and large storage compartment with solar panels mounted on top.
+ But perhaps the most desirable addition of all, is the walk-though transom steps and boarding/swim platform with a deep stainless steel swim ladder.
Her robust steel construction offers a level of security and peace of mind that no fibreglass yacht can match — reassuringly solid, resistant to the unexpected, and built to handle whatever the ocean throws at her.
Excellent electronics & electrical systems.
The electronics and electrical setup aboard Crackers is genuinely impressive. Extensive thought and investment have gone into creating a capable, dependable offshore system that supports comfortable long-term cruising and self-sufficiency.
There is a modern suite of Simrad electronics that include a 12″ multifunction display with radar, autopilot, AIS Transceiver, VHF radio’s, wind and data displays. Communications are also well catered for with an ICOM SSB radio, VHF radios, Furuno weather fax, Iridium GO, and a Celfi 4G phone booster with an aerial mounted on the mast.
The electrical demands of the boat are very well catered for. A large array of solar panels and a wind generator provide the necessary amps to the huge capacity 680Ah Lithium house batteries. DC-DC chargers supplement the setup and provide charge from the engine to the 12v Lithium house bank and the 24v bow thruster batteries. There is a Victron 2000W inverter to run your 240v appliances and the washing machine while under way. A very impressive setup in every respect.
The cockpit is compact and features good bracing as you would expect on a well-designed bluewater cruising boat. The primary winches and mainsheet are both within easy reach of the helm. The hard dodger is a very desirable feature on a cruising boat and provides a high degree of protection from the elements while underway or at anchor. Solid steel lifelines surround the entire deck area and provide a higher degree of safety while underway.
The interior layout is simple and functional. The saloon features a U-shaped settee around the dining table. The table can be lowered, and infill panels and cushions convert the entire saloon into a ginormous king sized bed. This creates a fantastic zone to chill out in front of the TV or relax with your favourite book.
The galley is another standout feature and has been very well designed for cooking while underway with good bracing on either tack. There is loads of bench space for preparing meals and heaps of storage. The high-quality Force 10 stove, oven and grill is gimballed and perfect for whipping up a quick passage meal or a feast at anchor. The gas system is professionally certified, and an onboard gas detector adds an extra level of safety and reassurance. The Engel fridge/freezer combination is both highly reliable and frugal on power consumption. A microwave running off the inverter adds a welcome touch of convenience and versatility.
The private aft master cabin offers a spacious double berth with abundant surrounding storage, creating a comfortable and practical retreat for extended living onboard. Forward, the guest accommodation features a generous V-berth double, providing comfortable sleeping quarters for family or visitors.
The upgraded 100HP Volvo Penta engine provides excellent performance underway. While some may consider it generous for a yacht of this size, when conditions deteriorate and the sea state becomes demanding, having substantial power in reserve is a major advantage and very reassuring. Combined with an impressive 500-litre diesel capacity, Crackers offers excellent motoring range and the ability to comfortably cover long distances under power when required.
The engine bay is spacious and there is great access to service and maintain the engine and other systems. There is good supply of engine spares including, impellers, diesel and air filters, and hoses included. To starboard of the engine bay is a very handy workshop area with excellent storage for tools, spares, paints etc.
Completing the cruising package is an outstanding tender, perfectly suited for both practical cruising duties and exploration. The tender is a rugged, unsinkable 3.4m alloy boat, fully equipped and even fitted with a bimini for added comfort and sun protection.
Powered by a 25HP Mercury two-stroke outboard, the tender delivers impressive performance and is capable of speeds over 20 knots. Whether used for fishing, provisioning runs, or exploring rivers and inland waterways, this is a seriously capable tender that adds a lot of versatility to the cruising lifestyle.
Crackers is an exceptionally well-equipped cruising yacht, thoughtfully prepared for serious passagemaking and comfortable liveaboard life. Offered to the market at a very realistic asking price, she represents outstanding value when the extensive onboard inventory and level of equipment are taken into account.
