Great live aboard bluewater cruising yacht

Dreamcatcher… The very name conjures up images of being anchored at a remote tropical island, sipping Pina Coladas as the sun slowly sets.

From the drawing board of renowned naval architect John Pugh, Dreamcatcher is a Sunbird 66. She was designed to circumnavigate the globe and venture into the high latitudes. With her striking blue topsides and impressive lines, Dreamcatcher has a formidable presence both out on the water and sitting alongside the dock.

Dreamcatcher was custom built by Brian Brady in Dampier and was splashed in 2002. The construction from start to finish was overseen by a professional surveyor and the build quality is very impressive. Over the past two years the current owner has spent a considerable amount of money updating the electrical systems and electronics. The interior has undergone a complete remodel.

With a long waterline and a good turn of speed under sail, the Sunbird 66 is a seriously capable passage maker. There is accommodation for ten crew which opens up the potential to utilise Dreamcatcher as an expedition yacht, or put into survey, could be an income producing charter vessel. Of course, she would also be a very spacious and comfortable liveaboard cruising yacht. With Dreamcatcher, the only limitations are your imagination.

Below the water line the Sunbird 66 has a powerful hull form and with a long fin keel she tracks very well to windward. The skeg hung rudder is an extremely robust design that provides an extra degree of protection from any debris encountered in the water. The bow thruster ensures that she is manoeuvrable in close quarters.

One of the standout features of the design is the all-weather pilot house. This offers complete protection from the weather on all sides and is a great place to keep watch while underway, or simply enjoy the panoramic views while sitting at anchor. The two large windows in the roof provide great vision of the mainsail from the helm.

Steeping down below from the pilot house is the main saloon. As you would expect on a boat of this size it is extremely spacious. To port is a very large and plush L-shaped couch. There is a very useful office desk on the port side which is great for laying out charts or working while living aboard. To starboard is a large dining table surrounded by a U-shaped settee with ample seating to accommodate a large crew of hungry sailors.

The galley is a simple and practical design that features twin stainless-steel sinks, a ceramic cooktop with a rangehood and a microwave oven. Refrigeration is well catered for with a free-standing full height domestic fridge and freezer.

Dreamcatcher is powered by a large six cylinder, 300HP Scania DS11 diesel engine. The engine was completely rebuilt prior to the original installation and has only done an estimated 400 hours. Power is well catered for with a 22KW Yanmar genset. The walk-in engine room is huge and provides excellent access around the engine, genset, and other systems for maintenance.

With a total of ten berths, accommodation is very well catered for. The master cabin is aft and features a comfortable double bed and ample storage with hanging wardrobes. There are two bunks alongside the walkway to the master cabin. These can be used as additional crew accommodation or storage. There are two large cabins forward. The one closest to the bow features two single bunk beds on the port side and a large double bed on the starboard side. The cabin just aft of this, features a large double bed to starboard and the bathroom and washing machine are on the port side of this cabin.

On deck the layout is very clean and simple. All lines and sheets run back to the two large winches on the aft deck. The winch on the starboard side is electric and is setup to handle the main halyard. There is the option to also lead both jib sheets back to the electric winch. On the transom is a large boarding/swim platform that folds down. The decks are very spacious and easy to move around and the deep bulwarks and solid stainless steel lifelines are a very good safety feature.

No matter how ambitious your cruising plans may be, Dreamcatcher is more than capable of fulfilling those dreams and taking you there in comfort and safety. She is a very large volume cruising yacht that will provide a spacious and comfortable liveaboard home. Yachts like Dreamcatcher are very rare and do not come onto the market very often. Don’t be the one to miss out on this great opportunity. Pick up the phone and give Chris a call today on  to arrange an immediate inspection.
