HUNTER 25 – Late Model TRAILER SAILER

The Hunter 25 trailer sailer is a very successful design and hugely popular the world over. The success of the design can be contributed to the numerous desirable design features that you would usually only expect to find on much larger yachts.

The modern design of the Hunter 25 has the beam carried well aft. This delivers additional interior volume for accommodation and more useable cockpit space. The cockpit is huge for a 25-footer and features wheel steering and a walk through transom. The removable helm seat provides easy access to the transom for swimming or boarding the yacht. The princess seats add additional seating and make it comfortable to sail with 4-6 adults onboard.

Both of the sails are excellent. The mainsail is new (2023) and only been sailed a few times. The jib is brand new and has never been sailed. Also included are full length covers for the entire boat.

The Hunter 25 features a shoal draft lead keel and has a draft of only two feet. The 594kg lead keel gives the boat very good stability and at the same time allows owners to take the yacht into very shallow water. This design offers two distinct advantages over water ballasted trailer sailors. Firstly, it maximises the interior living space and headroom as the floor is lower without the water tanks under it, and secondly, it makes the yacht simpler and easier to use as you don’t have the additional hassle of filling and emptying the ballast tanks.

Accommodation is another great selling point of the Hunter 25. The aft bed is a very comfortable full-size double. And with an additional double V-berth forward, you can comfortably accommodate four adults for the night. There is a small but functional galley with everything necessary to cook up a small storm. The head is fully enclosed and has a brand-new chemical toilet. A chemical toilet is a great option on a trailer Sailer as it can be used on road trips and solves the problem of a holding tank that is compulsory at destinations like Rottnest Is. Another clever design feature is the saloon table that can be removed and setup on the steering pedestal in the cockpit. The saloon roof hinges up to provide standing room in the saloon, and the covers and screens provide privacy and protection from the elements.

The mast lowering setup has been exceptionally well designed on the Hunter 25 and the mast can be lowered and raised by a single person. It stows securely in the recess in the pulpit and the removable transom mast support.

The motor is a 10hp four stroke Honda with electric start. The motor is attached to the rudder with a steering arm and turns in sync with the rudder. This is a great feature that significantly improves the handling of the yacht under power. The motor runs very smoothly, is quite and starts first turn of the key. There is a removable fuel tank under the cockpit floor.

Power onboard is well taken care of with a dual battery system. The starting battery is new (2023). There is brand new 160W flexible solar panel that can be removed and stowed under the aft mattress when not required. The solar panel can charge both the starting and house battery. There is also a built in Minn Kota dual battery charger that can charge both batteries simultaneously.

The yacht has spent the past decade at yacht clubs and subsequently the trailer is not currently registered. If you are planning on keeping it at a club, then you may want to leave it this way and save on the annual registration expense. In order to get the trailer registered, the main job that would need to be attended to is the brakes. The brake lines need replacing and the disks need to be skimmed. On the plus side, the trailer present well and has been recently rewired and has new LED lights.
