DISPLACEMENT CRUISER – GREAT LIVEABOARD
Displacement Cruiser - Great Liveaboard - All Offers Presented
Built for the US Marines as a personnel launch, this cabin cruiser is a very sea-worthy and capable heavy displacement design. It was originally stationed in the Exmouth Gulf and operated in Australian and Asian waters. When the USA closed the base, five of these were auctioned off to new owners. Needless to say, it is a very unique vessel with a considerable and colourful history.
Fast forward to today, and she has been converted into a very comfortable live aboard that the current owners have called home for the past 22 years.
The design features some great accommodation options. The large forward cabin has four bunk beds, and the lower two can be converted into a king size double with the infill cushions. Another standout features is the completely separate shower cubicle on the starboard side, so no wet toilet seats on this boat. The separate head is on the port side and it pumps out into a holding tank. For additional guests, the settees in the main saloon can also be converted into a comfortable double bed.
The galley is a simple but functional L-shaped layout. The cooktop is electric so you don’t have to worry about the danger of gas onboard. There is very good Panasonic inverter microwave with convection oven. Refrigeration is very catered for with a Westinghouse 250lt upright fridge and a Whirlpool 140lt freezer.
The main saloon is a very comfortably setup with a generous amount of seating surrounding a good size dinning table. The table drops down and converts to a double berth or day bed for lazing around with your favourite book. Entertainment is well catered for with a 26″ flat screen TV and stereo system.
Another standout feature is the large raised aft deck. This is fantastic BBQ/entertaining area with unobstructed ocean views. The aft ladder steps down to a fold down marlin board.
Now to address the elephant in the harbour… The engine is not currently running. The head was removed some time ago due to a blown head gasket and exhaust valve blowby. Since removal the head has been reconditioned by Ches Power Group. The owner has obtained all necessary parts to reassemble the engine including, new exchange injector pump units from the USA, a top end gasket kit, brand new exhaust manifold etc. While the head has been off the engine has been well oiled, covered and turned over regularly. The clamps pictured on top of the motor are to stop the sleeves from moving while turning her over.
Due to the motor not running, I am happy to present any reasonable offer to the owners. Needless to say, once the motor is up and running again, it will add considerable value to the boat. This is a great opportunity for someone that is mechanically able, or for someone that is simply on a budget and looking for a comfortable boat to live on.
